Ralph Vaughan Williams

The Vaughan Williams Memorial Library is the library and archive held by the English Folk Dance and Song Society. It houses one of the most important collections of folk art materials in the English speaking world. Richard Butterworth Digital Media Design developed a set of web sites that allow access to many of the library's artefacts as well as important folk art research materials. These have mostly now been superseded by the new VWML site.

VWML Online held index records about thousands of folk songs, tunes and dances, as well as historical photos of folk singers and other ephemera. It also holds the world famous Roud folk song and broadside index, which lists references to well over 200,000 folk songs.

The Take Six archival site held the complete archival records of six folk song collectors, plus the archives of Sabine Baring Gould, which were added later.

Cecil Sharp's Diaries were browsable online. The viewer holds digitisations of all the diary entries from 1915 - 1918, along with complete transcriptions and explanatory notes.

A Gallery of Historic Dance and Tune Books can also available online.

All four sub-sites were implemented in Perl using MySQL databases, with JavaScript and jQuery client-side processing.
